I'm a new iPhone user coming from 13 years on Android. I just realized that my photos, which look great, are being stored as HEIC. Is there any reason I should be saving my photos as HEIC? By the way, my work computer and home computer are Windows, and most of my family and friends use Android phones.

The best part about HEIC is that it is much smaller while maintaining the same or better quality as JPEG or JPG files.
HEIC format compresses images to reduce file size but preserves the original image data and quality without any degradation. In comparison, JPEG is a lossy format, which discards some image data and quality every time you save or edit your photos. For example, a JPEG file of 10 MB can be reduced to 2 MB in HEIC format without any noticeable difference in resolution or color.
Another advantage of using HEIC is that you can store multiple pictures in one file, such as burst shots, live photos, HDR photos, etc., making it easier to organize and manage the photo library. HEIC also supports more features than JPEG, such as transparency, animation, depth, and metadata.
However, are there any cons to HEIC photos? Yes, HEIC has its limitations on compatibility. JPEG has a longer history than HEIC and is more compatible across operating systems, devices, and software. Windows, macOS, Adobe Photoshop, etc, all support JPEG format. Even though HEIC has become commonplace in recent years, it is primarily on Apple devices.
Therefore, if you have a Windows computer, you should convert your HEIC photos to JPG/JPEG before photo transfer or backup. Need help with photo converting? EaseUS MobiMover can help you convert all your photos at once so you can share and view iPhone photos on your computer easily.
