Does iCloud Back Up Messages? How to View It?

I noticed that Messages for iCloud was deactivated in my iCloud Settings. I'm unsure if enabling it only syncs across devices or if it also backs up messages. Moreover, how can I view my messages backed up in iCloud?

Yes, iCloud backs up your messages. If you have enabled Messages for iCloud, your messages will sync to iCloud across your devices automatically and will not be included in iCloud Backup. If you have turned off iCloud Messages, your messages will be backed up in iCloud Backup. In both situations, your messages will be uploaded to iCloud. (Here, iCloud Backup means the backup file follows the path: Settings > User Name > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now.)

How to View iCloud Messages on Mac:

  • Launch the Message app and go to Preferences.
  • Select your iCloud account and Enable Messages in iCloud.
  • Then, you will be able to access iCloud Messages on your Mac computer.

Unfortunately, there is no official way for Windows users to view iCloud messages on their PCs. However, you can back up your message in an alternative way, thus making it possible to access and view your message backup on your computer freely.

How to View iCloud Messages on Windows:

  • Disable iCloud Messages by the following path: Settings > User Name > iCloud > Messages.
  • Install EaseUS MobiMover on your Windows and connect your iPhone to the computer.
  • Choose Phone to PC mode from the left panel and select Messages.
  • Set a storage path and click Transfer. Then, you can view the backup file anytime you want.

EaseUS MobiMover is a professional and reliable tool that has been proven by a number of users. Without worrying about data leaks, you can trust this software to back up your items, including messages, photos, WhatsApp messages, videos, etc.
