What Happens If I Disable and Delete Messages from iCloud?

I'm trying to clear iCloud Storage on my mom's iPhone. She has an iPhone 8 (iOS 13.5.1). She's paying $1.29 a month for 50GB of storage, and I cleared out her backups so she would have more space. I must've decided to enable iMessages to iCloud somehow. They're taking up lots of space, and I found where to turn it off, but when you disable and delete messages from iCloud, do they delete off of your phone as well or just in iCloud storage?

When you choose Disable and Delete messages from iCloud, it will only remove the messages from your iCloud account but not from your iPhone.

Go to Settings > Your Name > iCloud > Manage Storage > Messages > Disable & Delete > Delete Messages to remove all the messages from iCloud and clear your iCloud storage. Once you choose the Disable & Delete option, you can no longer access your messages through iCloud, but they will be downloaded to your device.

However, iCloud offers a 30-day recovery period, which means you can restore all the messages to your iCloud within 30 days after disabling and deleting messages from iCloud. After 30 days, your synced messages will be permanently deleted from iCloud.

If you don't have much space, you can back up text messages on your iPhone to your computer or external hard drive.
