How Many Backups Does iCloud Keep?

I've noticed that after restoring or erasing an iPhone and setting it up, you're offered backups to restore from iCloud. Now, I wonder how many and how old these backups are supposed to be.

iCloud only keeps one backup file for your iOS device. It will keep the most recent backup file. Each time you perform an iCloud backup, the oldest backup is automatically replaced with the new one. iCloud can store data for a long time. However, if you turn off iCloud on your device, it will only keep the backup file for 180 days, after which iCloud backups will be permanently deleted.

How to Back Up iPhone with iCloud:

  • Connect your iPhone to a stable Wi-Fi.
  • Ensure your iCloud has enough space to store the backup file.
  • Go to Settings > User Name > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now.

How to View iCloud Backup File:

  • Go to Settings > User Name > iCloud > Manage Storage.
  • Then, under Backups, you will see your iCloud backup with the file size.
  • If you want to delete the unnecessary backup file, just tap the file you want to remove and select Delete Backup. Then, it will be deleted from your iCloud account.

Although iCloud makes things so easy to back up your iPhone, it has some limitations: one is that it will overwrite your old backup file, which is mentioned above; the other is that iCloud only provides users 5GB storage for free use, and you need to pay monthly for extra space.

In this regard, there is a better way to back up your iPhone. Using EaseUS MobiMover, you can back up your iPhone easily and selectively without overwriting. Moreover, it supports multiple types of data, including contacts, messages, WhatsApp messages, photos, musics, videos, etc.

Step 1. Connect your iPhone to your computer and launch EaseUS MobiMover.
