Why is My iPhone Working but the Screen Is Black

Today, I made an update to the newest iOS. My iPhone worked fine for a few hours. Later comes the problem. Almost the whole screen of my iPhone is black, but I still can operate it (which isn't important because I can't see anything). What can I do to fix it?

If your iPhone is functioning but the screen is black, it may be experiencing what is commonly called the "black screen of death." This issue can arise from various causes, and here are some potential reasons and solutions:

Possible Causes

  • Software Glitches: Minor or major software issues, such as incomplete updates or problematic apps, can lead to a black screen while the device remains operational.
  • Hardware Problems: Physical damage, such as a cracked screen or water exposure, can render the display non-functional, even if the phone itself is still working.
  • Battery Issues: A completely drained battery might prevent the screen from turning on, even though the device is still operational. Charging the device can sometimes resolve this.
  • Malware or Jailbreaking: In rare cases, malware or unauthorized modifications to the device's software can cause instability, leading to a black screen.

Solutions

  • Force Restart Your iPhone: This is often the quickest fix. For iPhone 8 and newer models, quickly press and release the Volume Up button, then the Volume Down button, and finally, press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
  • Check Brightness Settings: Sometimes, the brightness may be set too low, making the screen appear black. Adjusting the brightness can help if the device is responsive to voice commands or notifications.
  • Charge Your iPhone: Connect your iPhone to a charger and charge it for at least 15-30 minutes. Ensure you are using an Apple-certified charger.
  • Inspect for Physical Damage: Look for any signs of damage to the device. Professional repair may be necessary if there are cracks or signs of water damage.

If the above methods do not work, you can restore your iPhone to recovery mode via iTunes. This process may erase your data, so you should back up your iPhone first.
