Share My Location Unavailable: How to Fix

Gorilla updated on Aug 29, 2024 to iOS Questions and Answers

Hi all, I'm frustrated because I can't share my location with my friends on my iPhone. I've tried several times but there's no option to share it. Has anyone else faced this issue? How can you fix this?

If you're unable to share your location on your iPhone, try these steps:

  • Check Location Services: Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Ensure that Location Services is turned on.
  • Check Permissions for the App: Within the same Location Services settings, scroll down to find the app through which you want to share your location (like Messages or Maps), and make sure it has permission to access your location.
  • Check Family Sharing Settings: If you're trying to share with family members, go to Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing > Location Sharing, and ensure it's enabled.
  • Sign Out and Back Into iCloud: Sometimes, simply signing out of iCloud and signing back in can resolve the glitch. Go to Settings > [your name] > Sign Out. Enter your Apple ID password and follow the instructions to sign out, then sign back in.
  • Restart Your iPhone: If all else fails, a restart can sometimes help resolve system glitches. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power off slider appears. Slide to turn off, then press and hold the side button to turn it back on.

If the Share My Location feature on your iPhone is unavailable and unable to connect to server, you can also try the following:

  • Check Restrictions for Location Services: In Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, ensure that Location Services are allowed. You might need to enter your Screen Time passcode to change the settings if restrictions are enabled.
  • Check Network Connection: Ensure your iPhone is connected to the internet through Wi-Fi or cellular data. A stable connection is required for location services to work properly.
  • Reset Network Settings: If the issue persists, try resetting your network settings. Note that this will erase all network settings, returning them to factory defaults. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Following these steps should resolve the issue and allow you to share your location as intended. You can also refer to: Why Is Share My Location Not Working on iPhone for more solutions.
