iPhone Storage Full After Deleting Photos

My iPhone storage was almost full, so I deleted many photos. But this didn't help clean my iPhone. Still, there was not much available space for me to use.

Here are a few reasons why your iPhone storage may still be full after deleting photos and how to fix it:

Recently Deleted Album

When you delete photos on your iPhone, they are first moved to the Recently Deleted album and stay there for 30 days before being permanently removed. To free up space immediately:

  • Open the Photos app and go to the Albums tab
  • Find the Recently Deleted album and select it
  • Tap "Select" in the top right
  • Choose "Delete All" to remove the photos permanently

Cached Data

Apps and websites can accumulate a lot of cached data over time, taking up storage space. To clear cached data:

  • Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage
  • Look for apps taking up a lot of space
  • Tap on them and select "Offload App" to remove the app but keep its documents and data
  • For Safari, go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data[4]

Software Bug

Occasionally, a bug in iOS can cause deleted photos to still appear in storage. To fix this:

  • Go to Settings > General > Date & Time
  • Turn off "Set Automatically" and manually set the date back 1-2 years
  • Check the Recently Deleted album again to delete any phantom photos fully

Optimize Photo Storage

If you use iCloud Photos, enable "Optimize iPhone Storage" to keep full-resolution photos in iCloud while storing smaller versions on your device to save space.

If none of these methods work, as a last resort, you may need to back up your iPhone, then factory reset it and restore it from backup to resolve any deeper storage issues. As for iPhone backup, EaseUS MobiMover is your great helper. It can back up your photos, videos, contacts, messages, contacts, and etc. More importantly, it is very easy to use.

  • Connect your iPhone to your computer and launch EaseUS MobiMover.
  • Choose Backup Manager from the left panel, and click Backup.
  • Select the category you want to keep a copy and click One-click Backup.
